Greenville police temporarily redirected traffic along Farmville Boulevard when a contractor cut a gas line near a church.
The contractor cut an underground gas line at Sycamore Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1610 Farmville Boulevard.
The incident happened around 5 p.m., said Capt. Calvin Horne, Greenville Fire-Rescue.
Between five to 10 people were evacuated from the church's child care center, Horne said. Traffic was redirected for about 15 minutes while a Greenville Utilities employee made his way to the scene and shut down the gas flow.
The GUC employee was able to repair the pipe and the adults and children were returned to the church by 5:30 p.m., Horne said.
Commenting is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F, except on Tuesday when it's open until 9 p.m.
