WINTERVILLE —
On senior night, the South Central softball team defeated Washington to wrap up its Coastal Conference championship season.
The Falcons clinched the Coastal title with a win at West Carteret earlier this week, and knocked off Washington, 1-0, on Thursday to take momentum into the state 3-A playoffs, which start on Tuesday.
The Falcons (18-2, 13-1) kept Washington scoreless through all eight innings. SC allowed only one hit.
Caitlin Wainright got the start in the circle, and pitched the first five innings. Caroline Wainright pitched the last three, and earned the win when the Falcons scored in the bottom of the eighth.
Andrea Britt knocked in Kim Boltinhouse for the game's winning run.
South Central, with the top seed from the Coastal, will host a first-round Class 3-A playoff game on Tuesday against a team yet to be determined.
