The owners of Wimpie’s Steam Bar and Grill, Scott and Kim Joyner, have announced they plan to reopen the restaurant and oyster bar in its previous Winterville location, the Ange Building at 204 Main St., later this fall. The current tenant, The WareHouse, will close Sept. 26 but may relocate if the owner can find an appropriate spot in the area.

The Joyners said in a telephone interview that they are ready to return to the restaurant business after a three-year hiatus. They operated Wimpie’s for 19 years. During that time, they purchased the two-story brick building that formerly housed A.W. Ange and Company general merchandise, running the restaurant on the ground floor and residing upstairs.

In 2010, the couple closed Wimpie’s. “I was kind of getting burned out on it at the time,” Scott Joyner said.

Wimpies

Great!!! I live in northern Ohio and drive the 600 miles to see my daughter and to enjoy Wimpies. I was unhappy when they closed but now am ready for another trip to Winterville for Wimpies!
