Sequels are rarely better than the original, but if you’re looking for straight-out action the new comic-book movie “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” in 3D surpasses the original.

Nicolas Cage reprises his role as the motorcycle rider from Hell, head aflame as he roars down the highway in search of wrongs to right. Fortunately for the tax-laden actor who needs the work, there are many.

The character first appeared in 1972 in a comic titled Marvel Spotlight #5. Created by writers Roy Thomas and Gary Friedrich, along with artist Mike Ploog, Ghost Rider is a stunt motorcyclist named Johnny Blaze, who sells his soul to the Devil and is transformed into a supernatural vigilante.
