When Andy McLawhorn retired as director of recreation for the Town of Ayden, he thought he might go back to his first love, sculpture. 

But he got sidetracked and now works every day at his small farm southwest of Winterville called Renston Garden Market — growing fruits and vegetables that he sells at his farm, the Umbrella Market on Wednesdays evenings and the Leroy James Farmers’ Market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.
