Cupid strikes this month on Feb. 14. There are plenty of ways to demonstrate your love without spending a bunch of money. Most of the local dollar-type stores have a variety of decorations to create a romantic room and simply setting aside some time for your loved one is a wonderful gift. Consider making a favorite meal or dessert or renting a much-loved movie. If you’d like to give flowers but don’t have the cash to drop on a dozen red roses, consider another in-season flower or a mixed bouquet. Even a plant that can be added to a garden is a long-lasting gesture.

Remember that it’s not about how much you spend but the thought you put into your gift.

A few local businesses have Valentine’s Day specials. Here they are:

A.J. McMurphy, 1914 Turnbury Drive, will offer a Valentine’s Day special of a prime rib dinner for two including salad, baked potato and dessert for $29.99 plus tip Feb. 13-14. Reservations are suggested. Call 355-7956.

The City Bistro, 203 S.W. Greenville Blvd., will hold a Valentine’s Day party from 5-10 p.m. Feb. 14 with the The Main Event. Call 355-8300.

Hilton Greenville, 207 S.W. Greenville Blvd., will offer a “Romantic Valentine’s Day” special beginning at 3 p.m. Feb. 12. The special includes an in-room bottle of champagne and strawberries; a single red rose and box of chocolates; dinner for two at Christinne’s Seafood Grille & Chophouse which is also available for in-room dining; a night’s stay and buffet breakfast before check out. Massage Works of Greenville, 104-D E. Victoria Court, will offer some Valentine’s weeks specials from Feb. 11-14. A one-hour couples massage is $160 or a 90-minute couples massage for $220.

The Ultimate Valentine’s Day couples package includes two hours of relaxation including an aromatherapy massage and your choice of two treatments selected from: hot stone facial, hot stone reflexology (foot) massage; aromatherapy sugar scrub to upper back; heated mud pack to upper back; or heated moisturizing hand and foot wrap.
