Downtown Farmville is reportedly embracing its latest venture in brew, the Pour Haus Pub, located at 3746 S. Main St.
Owned by Todd Garris and Robert Burt and managed by Jenna Rath, Pour Haus opened during the last week of November after three months of renovations.
“We tried to market it to where it's not high end, its not low end, it's down the middle,” Garris said. “Our customer base is from 25-65 (years old). It's something; its open, so that you can feel comfortable coming in as an adult and not feel like you're in the college world over there. It's very casual, laid back. It's just a good little social meeting (place). The Pub is a public meeting place.”
“As far as our beers,” Garris added, “we just created a nice selection because there's nowhere else in town beside the steak house.”
Their beer selection includes products from Farmville's own Duck Rabbit Brewery. Garris and Burt hope to have a beer tasting event with in mid-April.
After 2 months in operation, the private club has accumulated more than 600 members, Garris said. The membership fee starts at $1.
Since it opened, the bar has also become host to televised sporting events, UFC Fights and live music acts, starting with a show from Victor Hudson in February. This month, you can catch Hudson, Chase Given, and Mark and Kellie from Jupiter Jones. On March 17, Pour Haus Pub will help the town celebrate Music on Main, an event held in Farmville to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
The owners also hope to have a weekly karaoke night starting in March, as well as an open mike night.
More importantly to Garris and Burt is that they want people to know that the Pour Haus Pub is a way to get away from the typical scene in Greenville, and that it's closer than you think.
“I go to Greenville every day,” Garris said. “Truly, on 264, it's 13 minutes from Greenville. It's really not as far as you think. But the nice thing is you don't have any issues whatsoever when you walk outside to go to your car. You don't have people hanging out (so) that you just don't feel comfortable. It's just a very clean atmosphere and everybody's been supportive of us. If you're looking to step out for something different, something clean, step out to Farmville and see what it's about.”
Pour Haus opens at 3 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and is open from 3 p.m.-2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The bar is closed Sundays.

EAST COAST WINGS, ON THE GO
East Coast Wings & Grill has added an “on the go” version of their restaurant on 10th St., and owners are hoping they'll make fans of the late-night crowd.
Located where Quizno's once stood, East Coast Wings & Grill On the Go, 3109 E. 10th St., is situated within a few blocks of several apartment complexes. Featuring a sampling of favorites from their full menu and a wide variety of beer, the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Monday-Saturday. On Sunday, it'll be open from 11 a.m.-midnight.
“Cook Out (on 10th Street) has a line around it until about 4 (a.m.),” said Jared Lucas, who shares ownership of East Coast Wings & Grill with his brother Seth. “We're hoping we can grab some of that. They can come here. ... Now they can come here and have a couple of beers and eat, too.”
This is the first On the Go location for the restaurant. The Lucas' also own the East Coast Wings & Grill on Greenville Boulevard (next to Greenville Grande 14) and another location in Kinston. The Lucas' began looking for locations on the other side of Greenville about six months ago and it took them about six weeks to convert the Quizno's into an East Coast Wings. They opened Jan. 29 after training the new location's staff at the main restaurant.
The On the Go version features “fan-favorite” menu items, including the Buffalo chicken wrap, veggie wrap, cheeseburger, traditional steak Philly, honey-barb chicken sandwich, oversized salads, Buffalo wings, shrimp, chicken tenders and boneless wings. On the Go offers the top 25 favorite wing flavors available at full service East Coast Wings & Grill locations.
“It's something to feed into our bigger location,” Seth said on the day before they opened. “People come here 'cause it's a long drive to get across town, especially around lunch time or dinner time. It takes about 30-45 minutes sometimes. We thought this would be a good way to get people that would never come across town to try us here and taste some of our fan favorites and then if they really like it, they'll go across town and take that time to try our ribs our fajitas and other items that we don't have (at On the Go).”

STILL LIFE RETURNS TO ROOTS
Still Life is returning to its roots and reconnecting to its market with the promotion of three new managers.
Owner Sharif Hatoum named Mike Hazel as the club's new general manager, Paul Fragola to head promotions and Pete Kuetemeyer, who will be responsible for everything alcohol-related, for their connections within the college-aged community. Under a new motto, “Experience the difference,” Hazel says they're really just getting back to their roots — to the vision Hatoum had when he first opened Still Life.
“We feel like our bar has something that other bars really can't offer,” Hazel said. “Yeah, we're more of a dance club, but we feel that we can offer the customers a much better time, to have more fun.”
“We want the people who come in — students that are going to class and doing their schoolwork — we want them to come in and forget about it completely,” he added, “(to) have the time of their life and feel like they're on top of the world. We want our clients to have the best time and feel like they're important when they're here.”
Hazel has been working for the club for 21/2 years now, starting off as a bouncer and moving his way up to head of security, then assistant manager. Now, he's in charge of the staff, financial obligations and will work closely with Fragola and Kuetemeyer. One idea is to bring in a different business on the first Friday of every month to host a cross-promotional party.
“I remember when this bar first opened and I first stepped foot into it, how much I loved it,” Hazel said. “I actually had the chance to start bouncing here way before I did, and I turned it down and came back. When I did, I just loved it. It's the first job I ever loved. Ever since that day, I always told myself I'd love to run this bar.”
Last April Still Life expanded by opening a location in Raleigh. Hatoum is currently looking to open another location, yet to be named.
The Greenville Still Life, the only place in town with a Sky Bar, is open 11 p.m.-2 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday-Saturday, but they can be flexible for private parties.
For information on private parties, call the club at 329-9991 or Hazel at (980) 233-1630.
