On March 29, indie-rock band Royal Bangs will release their third album, “Flux Outside,” the first CD to be released since they signed with Glassnote Records in September 2010.
The very next night, they will be in Greenville performing at Live, 212 E. Fire Tower Road. The show is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
Two days later, on April 1, the band will be musical guests for "Late Night with David Letterman."
Comprised of front man Ryan Schaefer, drummer Chris Rusk, and guitarist Sam Stratton, Royal Bangs combine catchy hooks with heavy synths to create a sound that SPIN Magazine described as “a mix of LCD Soundsystem's pulsing electro-punk and the new wave-y shimmer of the Strokes.”
From Knoxville, Tenn., they were discovered by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys while singer Schaefer was in France and the band was on an indefinite hiatus. Carney discovered them through their MySpace page.
The band released their first album, “We Breed Champions” in 2008 through Carney's independent label, Audio Eagle Records. In 2009, German label City Slang also released the record in Europe. Later that year, both labels released the second album, “Let it Beep.”
“ ... ‘Let It Beep' is a charming and entirely unforeseen hit for tastes demanding their rock a little rough-hewn and happily unaffected.,” wrote BBC Music Editor Mike Diver. “That it makes KoL (Kings of Leon) sound as sonically redundant as U2 and Oasis is merely an accidental bonus.”
