The pressure was off East Carolina Friday and it showed.

The Pirates, already in possession of the title in Conference USA’s East Division, expressed themselves in their regular season finale, trampling UTEP by a 53-21 count.

East Carolina spoiled Eric Maynor’s return to eastern North Carolina, but not before Maynor and his Virginia Commonwealth Rams put a serious scare into the Pirates. ECU’s men’s basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a thrilling 93-90 overtime victory over VCU in Minges Coliseum Tuesday despite a game- and career-high 35 points from Maynor, who went to Fayetteville Westover High School.
