Sol Driven Train's 'Live on the Outer Banks'

Thursday, May 01, 2008

Based out of Folly Beach, S.C., Sol Driven Train has been touring throughout the Southeast and beyond since the fall of 2005, playing locally at Dr. Unk's April 10.

"Live on the Outer Banks" captures one night at one of the bands favorite coastal-tour destinations with Russell Clarke (saxophone); Ward Buckheister (trombone and guitar); Joel Timmons (guitar); Rusty Cole on bass; and Phill Eason (drums and keys). All of the musicians contribute on vocals. Even though it's live, the recording sounds just as smooth as some studio-recorded albums and captures the band's funk/reggae/rock spirit. As if the Dave Matthew's Band met the Allman Brothers and a Rastafarian, and decided to have a jam session, discuss being from the Carolinas, social awareness and a desire to be a jellyfish, because, "down there, you don't need air.

Sol Driven Train has two other albums: a children's album (yes, children's album) called "Tajar Tracks" (2005) and their first studio album, "Lighthouse," released April 8.

If you're looking for a chill CD you can let play throughout the afternoon, "Live" is a good choice.
