Around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon — three hours after the live music began at Bob’s Barefoot at the Pool — up-and-coming nationally-touring Thriving Ivory was about to close up their set in front about approximately 500 pool guests at the main pool at North Campus Crossing.
“This is ‘Baby Got Back,’ by Sir Mix-A-Lot,” jested singer Clayton Stroope.
But instead of spitting those famous rap lines, the band broke into their hit single “Angles on the Moon,” the very song guests had been screaming for since the rockers took the stage. The song sparked an impromptu afternoon sing-along through much of the complex.
Thriving Ivory performed along with Jessie James, best-known for her current hit single “Wanted”; Parmalee, who’s singles “Carolina” and “Gasoline” are currently airign on national radio playlists; and Stretch, local acoustic artist who can be heard weekly on Bob 93.3 during the “Stretch Remix at Six.”
The party, which was hyped as the biggest of its kind for the year, was free and exclusive to North Campus Crossing residents and friends of Bob 93.3.
Property manager Sarah Brock said it was important for them to give something special back to their residents.
“We just want to show the residents we love them,” Brock said. “We treat our residents like they’re guests every day, and we wanted to do something to show we appreciate them.”
Stretch opened the show around 1 p.m. before pop/country star Jessie James took stage and stole hearts. After her performance, rumors lingered throughout the venue concerning whether or not James would be joining the party in the pool.
After Jessie James was Thriving Ivory, followed by Parmalee, who spent much of their afternoon greeting fans under their purple and gold ECU tent. The day’s events were hosted by Guenn, from “The Ace and TJ Show.”
