A Greenville family opened Upper Deck Sports Bar and Grill Feb. 21 in the former location of Boli's on the Boulevard and Courtyard Tavern, 703 S.E. Greenville Blvd., in the Greenville Square Shopping Center across from Kmart.

In the spirit of Boli's and Courtyard Tavern, owner Lance Nunnery, who will act as general manager, says they'll be bringing in live entertainment over the weekends. Upper Deck is hosting karaoke on Fridays, a local acoustic band or DJ on Saturdays until 1 a.m. and full bands on Sundays from 7-10 p.m., a tradition Courtyard Tavern began.

“Everybody's told us that's what we've got to bring back to Sunday nights,” Nunnery said, “so we're going to go ahead and try to do that.”

Upper Deck has already brought in some local heavy-hitters, including Mark and Kelli on March 6 and Emily Minor Band on March 27.

In March, Upper Deck also began hosting beer pong tournaments on Mondays and planned to begin cornhole tournaments every Tuesday.

The menu features a large variety of “pregame starter” appetizers including such traditional sports bar fare as South of Buffalo Wings in hot, mild or honey barbecue sauce ($9), Pizza Rolls with cheese and sliced pepperoni ($6), beer-battered onion rings ($6), garlic cheese bread with marinara sauce ($4), meat and bean chili topped with cheese and onions ($3 for a cup) and Spinach Artichoke Dip ($6). Specialties include an 8-ounce cheeseburger ($7), pulled pork sandwich ($7), chicken fingers ($8), triple-decker club ($7), Philly steak or chicken (48) and Reuben ($8). The menu also includes entree salads ($5-$7) and pizzas with a variety of toppings (from $5 for a personal pizza with one topping, $17 for a large Home Run Pizza with up to nine toppings). Cheesecake is $2 per slice.

The children's menu ranges in price from $4-$6 and includes a burger, chicken fingers, grilled cheese sandwich and corn dog nuggets.

Menu items are available for take out.

A pizza buffet and salad bar will be offered from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays-Fridays.

Upper Deck has all its ABC permits, wine by the glass and 10 beers on tap. Drink specials are offered daily.

Nunnery's parents, Pam and Mark Nunnery, and his brother Jordan, are also part owners of the venue. The family moved to Greenville from Kansas in July.

“I saw that the location was available and thought it would be a good spot for a sports bar,” Lance Nunnery said. Renovations included repainting the interior and exterior of the building and installing a new sound system. The dining room features a large bar and 20 flat-screen televisions. Patrons may request a Soundog personal speaker to place on their tables in order to hear the audio for a specific television program. There is seating for 120 in the dining room and at the bar, and seating for 60 at 15 tables on the large outdoor patio.

Hours are 11 a.m.-midnight Sundays-Thursdays and 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Fridays-Saturdays. Call 756-3923.
