Audi trims size, not quality

ATLANTA — While SUVs aren't as popular as they once were thanks to skyrocketing gas prices and increasing concern about the environment, there is still a market for them.

So Audi has unveiled its latest creation, the Q5.

It's a smaller version of the company's Q7 SUV.

The Q5, which will go on sale early next year, will offer the dynamic performance and handsome styling found in its larger sibling, Audi says.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be priced similarly to other small SUVs in the luxury segment, such as the BMW X3, which starts at close to $40,000.

The Q5 will be powered by a 3.2-liter V-6 engine that makes 265 horsepower. The transmission will be Audi's six-speed Tiptronic, which can be shifted manually if the driver wishes.

Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system will power the drivetrain.

It's an Audi, so you know the interior will be beautiful.

The luxury touches you would expect will be present, such as leather upholstery and an impressive Bang & Olufsen sound system.
