Alleged hit-and-run driver arrested

Collision occured at Fifth and Memorial about noon

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Greenville Police officers intercepted a possible hit and run driver this afternoon when she drove past police headquarters, officials said.

The woman was arrested after a collision with a truck at the intersection of Fifth Street and Memorial Drive at about noon, a department spokesman said.

Officers stopped the woman on Dickinson Avenue two blocks from police headquarters shortly after they were notified of the hit and run collision. The front end of the woman’s car was visibly damaged.

The woman was driving a white sedan south on Memorial when she approached the intersection of West Fifth Street, said Lt. Ed Carson and several witnesses.

A panel truck was turning left from Fifth onto Memorial Drive heading south when the sedan allegedly rammed into it, forcing it onto its side.

The truck’s driver was assisted from the front of the truck by Greenville EMS personnel and transported to nearby Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Carson said.

The woman was not visibly injured and stayed with police officers after her car was towed from Dickinson Avenue.

The woman’s sedan was towed from the Dickinson Avenue location.

Officers directed heavy traffic around the accident scene until the truck could be towed away and the debris cleared from the intersection, about 45 minutes after the collision.

J, if I am wrong, then my apologies to Sarah. Until she posts an objection, I'm comfortable feeling that she is the same individual as Sara.

Hey, J. I just read the Wal-Mart and Sara's spelling is indeed consistent with this post. Chalk it up to a typo on Bo's part. Anonmynity keeps us from knowing certainly, but am willing to wager the Saras in question are one in the same.

Bo, I could be wrong, but since the name "sara" is spelled differently in each article you mention, did you consider that maybe it's not the same Sara? Again, this is just speculation on my part- but don't be so quick to jump to conclusions if you're not so sure! -J

Sarah, I totally agree with you on this one, she should go directly to jail. Yet YOUR logic confuses me. The was obviously an ACCIDENT on her behalf, but she committed a crime when she left the scene. However, on another article about the Wal-Mart shooting you say that the Williams guy, that has a history of crime and shot at people DELIBERATELY, should be left alone. Please explain that one for me.

Agreed. I can understand how someone might panic and make the very poor decision to leave, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be severely punished for it.
Just another example of how selfish this society has become. You can see it every day in the way people drive, and then they hit someone and are more concerned about getting a ticket than checking to see if the person they hit might need help.

Agree!

I agree, Sarah! How irresponsible to leave the scene of an accident. I hope she does time.

Send her butt to jail. It's one thing to hit someone. Accidents happen. Quite another to just drive away after the fact. Suggests to me she may be guilty of other things and did not want to get caught.
