The state Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that would reduce the size of the Pitt County Board of Education from 12 to seven members.

The full Senate voted on the legislation Tuesday night, hours after the State and Local Government Committee approved it. The breakdown on the Senate vote was not immediately available.

The bill now goes to the House. It's likely the legislation will be assigned to a House committee for review.

No surprise

Ok Mary Williams...are you just afraid you will lose? Why don't you inflate your next campaign with lies just like OBAMA bin Laden and get all your "people" to vote for you. People that haven't voted in years will come out of the woodwork just like they did for him. Then when things don't go their way, they will cry foul. Then who is to blame? Give me an break.

These so called public figures are all just alike (Rose, Kandi, Calvin, Mildred, Rufus, Ozzie, Reverend Barber) Do I see a pattern here? These people all scream the race card when they are the ones that are mad at their own people for not sitting up straight and taking responsibility. Don't blame others for your own mistakes. I know plenty of "minorities" that have survived the ghetto. Went to college, have a successful career and respectful children who know right from wrong because they were taught by their parents. Its all about the home life. You are a product of your environment. NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING.

We used to talk about states'

We used to talk about states' rights. Now the state is usurping the rights of the counties.

So we have the federal government doing what the states should be doing, and the states doing what the counties should be doing. What's next? I guess the chamber will take over and start dictating to Congress.

It is a unique way of handling your problems. I used to cry to momma but now rather than cry to momma............you can cry to your supposed conservative General Assembly. It will certainly mark a new era in politics when the General Assembly starts carrying water for the school board liberals. And getting a conservative legislature to do it at that. That shows real political power! This proves the liberals are smarter than the conservatives!!!!!!!!!

But I am glad I was around to see it.

Race, racist. race,

Race, racist. race, racist...is there EVER an instance when it was the correct plan of action or simply democracy ruled...WHY always black vs white? The RACIST spoke out...and also verbally assaulted Suzanne Sartelle in the Gen Assembly, before many who witnessed the tongue lashing....Of course, in dire times as this, the taxpayers are EXPECTED to fund the 18 on the bd and provide benefits...while we CUT our budgets/households...This is a done deal, thanks to Pate & Cook...time has long-past to end the bd member's terms and the number serving. Common sense and financial sense, not RACISM missy dear...

I am so sick of every black

I am so sick of every black official who doesn't get their way calling on the race card. It doesn't work anymore and everyone is tired of it.
