The young woman sitting on the couch with her ankles crossed looked peaceful, but a bullet hole at the back of her neck told a different story, her mother said.
Iris J. Harper said her 22-year-old daughter, Navekia, was a “good person” on the brink of determining what she wanted in life when her boyfriend of two years ended hers and his in 2003.
On Nov. 9, 2003, the phone rang shortly after 11:30 p.m. and Harper was told Navekia, known as Nikki, had been shot at the home she shared with her sister Katrina in the Hardee Acres subdivision.
