A sixth city bus route is scheduled to open Saturday in Greenville, adding new areas of service and aiming to improve timeliness along existing lines.

Route 6 directs GREAT buses along some of the same stops as Route 3, which includes Hooker Road, Kristin Drive and Pitt Community College. Route 3 has the most riders and regularly runs at full capacity during peak travel times, Transit Manager Nancy Harrington said. The new route will alleviate that burden.

Additionally, Route 4 had become too long, Harrington said, and drivers were struggling to keep on schedule. Route 6 will absorb all stops on that route located south of the Tar River while adding service to the Williams Road area.
