Greenville City Manager Wayne Bowers on Friday announced his retirement effective March 1.

He really retired 7 years ago

when he came here.

Fortunately for Bowers, Pat Dunn was the mayor and she was easily
swayed and bamboozled.

Now , lets get moving on City cost cuts and expense monitoring
and do some smart budgeting.

Don't Blame Him

I don't blame Mr. Bowers at all for retiring. Why would anyone want that thankless job? What you fail to realize is that Mr. Bowers ,like all City Managers, works for Council, not the mayor. He has to cater to their individual and collective needs as they have the right to let him go at any meeting. Given the political uncertainty and idiocy this council has displayed in recent days, who could blame him for leaving.

If you are looking for Cost Cuts and expense monitoring and what you term "smart budgeting", I hate to break it to you, but it ain't happening! Not with Mr. Bowers or whoever comes after him.

...and for your Crime Problem....look no further than this picture to see why it is such a daunting tasks for the GPD.

I don't blame the Police Chief for leaving as well or look for improvement in this area. Any chief you hire from another location is using this as a stepping stone for a bigger job and payday and the qualified internal candidates seem ready to retire as opposed to dealing with Council etc.
