A majority of Pitt County commissioners said they do not support raising taxes to increase local funding for Pitt County Schools.
The commissioners said they are frustrated because they believe the Republican-led General Assembly is shifting more of the burden of funding public education onto local government.
“The school systems should get together and collectively go to Raleigh and petition the legislature,” Commissioner Tom Coulson, one three Republicans serving on the nine-person Pitt County Board of Commissioners, said.
