Dog costume contest fundraiser Saturday
The Humane Society will hold its annual Howl-O-Ween Festival on Saturday at Green Springs Park on Fifth Street. The festivities include face painting, cookie decorating, photo booth, bake sale, an adoption stand and a costume contest in the categories of cutest couple, sweetest small dog, best big dog and best human dressed as animal. Registration begins at 1 p.m., and the contest begins at 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the first place in each category. The entry fee is $5 per category. Human trafficking awareness event set
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority will host “Not for Sale,” a human trafficking awareness event, at 6 p.m. Monday in Hendrix Theatre at Mendenhall Student Center at East Carolina University. Water safety course for instructors
The Pitt County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer a water safety instructor course on Nov. 11 and Nov. 13-15. The cost is $175 for the four days of classes and participants must be 17 years of age by the last day of class. Participants must pre-register and prepay. Bingo games to support animals
The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina will hold Bow Wow Bingo at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Pitt County Community Schools & Recreation Building, 4561 County Home Road. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door and include six cards to all regular bingo games and a dabber. There also will be extra boards, $150 jackpot board specials, a 50/50 raffle drawing and light refreshments available for purchase. Tickets are available at Wild Birds Unlimited and the humane society.
