Commissioners to host forum Tuesday
Pitt County Board of Commissioners Chairman Melvin McLawhorn and Commissioner Eugene James will host a community forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Boys & Girls Club, 475 Belvoir Highway/N.C. 33. Communities plan Veteran's Day programs
Several Pitt County communities have planned Veteran's Day programs Wednesday.
A celebration is planned at 11 a.m. on the Greenville Town Common.
The Town of Ayden will hold a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on Third Street. The event will be held rain or shine. Call 746-7030 to make reservations by Monday.
Winterville will host a program at 2 p.m. at the Public Safety Building at the corner of Railroad and Main streets.
HomeTown Bethel will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the town arboretum. Rep. Edith Warren will speak in addition to retired Col. Mike Whitehurst, U.S. Air Force. A flag retiring ceremony will be conducted by Boy Scout Troop No. 15 and the North Pitt High School JROTC will post colors. A wreath will be laid at the Veterans Rock during the ceremony. Those with flags that need to be retired with honor can take them to the Bethel Town Hall.
End of Life Care planning clinic offered
The End of Life Care Coalition of Eastern Carolina will hold a free advance care planning clinic Thursday in the Pine and Elm rooms at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. A short educational program on advance care planning will be offered at 10 a.m. Trained facilitators and notaries will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help with completing advance directive documents, such as living wills and health care powers of attorney. Douglas aircraft on view at airport
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 960 of Farmville will present the Douglas C-54 aircraft at the Pitt-Greenville Airport from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Nov. 15. The “Spirit of Freedom” participated in the Berlin Airlift from June 1948 until September 1949, moving supplies into Berlin during a blockade of the city. Latin, Caribbean meeting set
The National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC), a network of more than 100 Latino and Caribbean immigrant-led organizations throughout the United States, will hold its sixth annual Leadership Assembly Friday through Sunday at the East Carolina University Heart Institute. The Mexican Association of North Carolina (AMEXCAN), a member organization of NALACC, in partnership with the ECU, will be host the event. Area turkey shoots planned this month
Several fire departments are holding turkey shoot fundraisers this month. Concessions will be available at each shoot.
Belvoir's event will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 and Nov. 25. Turkey, ham and money rounds will be shot in addition to the Shoot the Light round. For more information, call David Roebuck at 341-1718.
