Water safety instructor course offered
The Pitt County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer a water safety instructor course Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $175 for the four days of classes and participants must be 17 years of age by the last day of class. Participants must preregister and prepay. Radiothon to help cancer society
Jammin 99.3 FM and The Big Dawg 98.5 FM will hold an American Cancer Society Radiothon from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday to benefit the society's efforts in Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson counties. Listeners can make a pledge, donate to honor someone and/or bid on an item. Before the radiothon, listeners can make a donation to have a song played that day or a dedication read on the air. Bingo games to support animals
The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina will hold Bow Wow Bingo at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pitt County Community Schools & Recreation building, 4561 County Home Road. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door and include six cards to all regular bingo games and a dabber. There also will be extra boards, $150 jackpot board specials, a 50/50 raffle drawing and light refreshments available for purchase. Tickets are available at Wild Birds Unlimited and the human society.
Financial seminar offered in Spanish
“Tu Dinero, Tu Futuro” (Your Money, Your Future), a free financial education seminar is planned from 7-9 p.m. Friday in All Saints' Hall of the Episcopal Church, 101 N. Bonner St., Washington, N.C. Three banking professionals will discuss bank accounts, loans, credit cards, and other financial subjects. Most discussion will be conducted in Spanish. Reverse raffle to benefit Farmville club
The Boys & Girls Club in Farmville will hold its annual reverse raffle from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 4138 Grimmersburg St. Tickets are $100 and include two Longhorn Steakhouse meals and a chance to win $5,000. Run to benefit wounded warriors
The second annual Wounded Warrior Run will be held Saturday around the Brook Valley golf course and subdivision. There will be a 5-mile run and 1-mile fun walk, sponsored by East Carolina University's Army ROTC “Pirate Battalion” and the Brook Valley Country Club. All proceeds will benefit the Ft. Bragg Soldier & Family Assistance Center which assists the Warrior Transition Battalion's Soldiers and their families as they recover from injuries suffered in combat.
