County government
Pitt County is governed by nine elected members of the Board of Commissioners. The board decides policy by majority vote during regular monthly meetings and special called meetings. The county manager and county staff provide information and support on matters before the board.
Commissioners are elected by districts to serve four-year terms. The elections are staggered. Commissioners typically meet at 9 a.m. the first Monday and 6 p.m. the second Monday of the month. The meetings are held in the second-floor commissioners' auditorium of the Pitt County Office Building, 1717 W. Fifth St. Commissioners also hold a preagenda meeting at 4:15 p.m. the Thursday before their meeting. That meeting is held in the administrative conference room.
Commissioners noted with a * will be replaced by the winners of the November 2006 election.
