GREENVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
The police department focuses on the protection of lives and property, the provision of programs and services that foster community crime prevention, the repression and apprehension of offenders and the maintenance of public order. There are 170 sworn police officers serving the city.

Participants learn about community policing, police training, firearm safety, general and major crimes, domestic violence, courtroom procedures and narcotics investigation.
• Community Watch Program: Officer Michael Harper, 329-4355. The department coordinates neighborhood watch programs throughout the city.
• CrimeStoppers: 758-7777. Callers can leave anonymous tips about criminal activity and earn rewards up to $2,500.

• Records Division: 329-4325. Copies of traffic, criminal incident and arrest reports may be obtained for $5 per report at 500 S. Greene St.
PITT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
The sheriff's office provides law enforcement and other services for unincorporated areas of Pitt County and several small municipalities. Deputies also serve civil and criminal court summons. The sheriff is elected to office every four years. The next election is in 2010. There are 120 sworn deputies with the office.

• Pitt-Greenville CrimeStoppers, 758-7777. CrimeStoppers operates a telephone hotline for callers to leave tips about crime activity without leaving their name. The organization also pays rewards up to $2,500.
• Community Watch: Tonya Leggett, 902-2727. The sheriff's office aids residents who wish to establish community watch groups in county neighborhoods. The groups are run by residents, with the assistance of crime-prevention deputies.

Several municipalities outside of Greenville operate their own police force. All police can be dispatched by dialing 911.

STATE HIGHWAY PATROL
The patrol enforces traffic laws on all county roads and highways. Troopers also assist motorists involved in wrecks or whose vehicles have broken down. They can be reached with a mobile phone by dialing *HP. There are 21 troopers and four supervisors that serve Pitt and Martin counties.

EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY
The ECU Police Department provides law enforcement for the university campus in Greenville, the Brody School of Medicine and the medical school's clinics located throughout the city. There are 52 sworn ECU police officers, 10 others are expected to be added by the end of summer 2007.

PITT COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The PCC Police Department provides law enforcement for the campus in Winterville. There are five full-time and two part-time officers.

PITT COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
The Pitt County Memorial Hospital Police Department provides law enforcement for all hospital buildings. There are 34 sworn PCMH police officers, six more are expected to be added during the summer of 2007.
