Pitt County operates 14 collection and recycling centers which may be used by citizens to dispose of residential waste and recycling. Nathan Pipkin is the director of solid waste and recycling. His office is at 3025 Landfill Road and he can be reached at 902-3350.
The waste centers are open every day April through October from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sundays 2–7:30 p.m., and November through March from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sundays 2–6 p.m.

Door to door collection of garbage in Pitt County can be contracted with several waste collection companies. Residential garbage collection within the corporate limits of municipalities is provided by the town or city government. Pitt County operates one solid waste transfer station located on Allen Road. The landfill was closed in 1995, but the site continues to be used for solid waste operations and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, closed on Sunday. A fee is charged for non- residential waste. To report littering, illegal dumping, or debris blowing from an uncovered vehicle, call the environmental officer at 714-4443.
