Severe storms cut through Carolinas
RALEIGH, N.C. — Severe storms are cutting through the Carolinas, bringing high winds, hail and the potential for local flooding.
The National Weather Service warned Sunday of thunderstorms across North and South Carolina and issued an advisory for most of both states. The first storms arrived early in the afternoon and a cold front crossing the region brought more storms and heavier rains in the evening.
Forecasters the storms could be strong enough to produce hail the size of a quarter, and radar indicated the storms were packing winds as high as 70 mph.
