Images from the past: Joyner Library digitizes history

The Daily Reflector Negative Collection

A 1955 shot of The Daily Reflector's building at Evans and Third streets is among thousands of images in The Daily Reflector Negative Collection being digitized by the Special Collections department at ECU's Joyner Library.

The Special Collections department at East Carolina University's Joyner Library recently obtained a grant to digitize hundreds of photographic negatives donated to the library by The Daily Reflector.

The film was shot by the newspaper's photographers between ca. 1920 and 1967. Digitizing them will make them easily accessible to a wider audience.

As the work progresses, The Daily Reflector will post examples here and ask viewers for information about the photos.

Captions are not available for many of the negatives, so librarians are hoping the public can help identify people, places and activities that will provide context.

A new image will be posted each weekday. Please browse through and feel free to make a comment using the link below, or click here to e-mail Dale Sauter, manuscript curator.
