  • Snow makeup day will be half day

    Pitt County Schools has determined that the Memorial Day makeup day, May 31, will be a half day of school with dismissal three hours earlier than usual.

    “We have heard the concerns in the community that the makeup day is on Memorial Day, and we will be encouraging activities honoring veterans,” Superintendent Beverly Reep said at the school board meeting Monday night.

    Raleigh police offered no new details Thursday about their investigation into the assault of a Greenville woman at a Raleigh residence and her subsequent death.

    Kathy Taft, 62, was discovered March 6 at the Cartier Drive home of her friend John M. Geil.

  • Grant, loan helping Bethel replace aging water system

     

    The Town of Bethel is expected to replace much of its aging water system beginning this summer with a loan and a federal grant.

    U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C. 1, announced Thursday that Bethel will receive a $256,000 loan and $2.4 million federal grant for water system improvements.

  • ECU holds student apartment fair

    Hundreds of East Carolina University students gathered information on the housing options in Greenville and the surrounding areas on Wednesday at an apartment fair on campus.

    The Office of Off-Campus Student Services hosts the fair every spring semester for students to explore companies that offer apartments and other rental properties in Greenville.
