Pitt County’s Relay for Life events have walked away with a national fundraising award.
Pitt County ranked third in the nation in 2011 in per-capita fundraising among communities with populations between 150,000 and 249,000. Three local events — Relay of Life of Pitt County, Relay for Life of ECU and Relay for Life of Farmville —raised a combined total of nearly half a million dollars for the American Cancer Society.
“A lot of times a Relay in our area will win a division award,” said Bethann Wilkie, community manager for the ACS South Atlantic Division. “This year we actually won a national award, which is really impressive.”
