Local appearances by first lady Michelle Obama and Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan this month demonstrate that the presidential campaigns are taking no votes for granted in 2012.

North Carolina has been viewed as a battleground state for months. While the bulk of the state’s voters live in Charlotte, the Triad and Triangle, eastern North Carolina has a core of voters that both sides want to win.

*you're right to point out that obama is not as fresh and alluring as he was 4 yrs ago. in fact--i'm quite tired of seeing his face on tv--he's overexposed himself. i just can't watch him or hear his lies anymore.

to put Michelle Obama on the front page? Ryan has a picture that has been photoshopped to remove the background. How exactly did that happen? DR bias is amazing. The editor should be ashamed for what he is doing to journalism. He needs to hand the keys over to someone else because he has driven this paper in the ditch.
