A Grimesland man is dead following a head-on collision Friday on N.C. 33, according to the State Highway Patrol.
Cecil McDaniel Brinson, 74, was driving a Toyota pick-up truck west on N.C. 33 in heavy rain when he crossed left of the center line near the intersection with Dixon Road, about 3.7 miles east of Chocowinity. The pickup struck a Dodge SUV traveling east on the highway just after 7 p.m., Trooper J.P. Howard said. The truck was stopped in the road and the SUV crossed a ditch before coming to rest.
A driver and one passenger were inside the SUV, Howard said. Both Shauna Moody, 43, and Clyde Jonhson, 56, were transported to Beaufort County Medical Center in Washington, N.C.
Moody and Johnson were treated and released over the weekend, a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday.
The highway patrol was still investigating Sunday afternoon what caused Brinson to drift out of his lane. There was no evidence of hydroplaning at the scene, Howard added.
Troopers responded to no fatal wrecks in Pitt County this weekend despite the bad weather.
