Hundreds of Greenville and Pitt County residents joined city and county officials Saturday at the Greenville Town Common to celebrate the first National Recovery Month sponsored locally by the Pitt County Substance Abuse Coalition.
They lined up at the First Street entrance of the common and proceeded on a mile-long “walk for recovery” along downtown streets to memorialize those who have lost their lives to substance abuse or addiction and to celebrate those who have found a path to recovery.
Walkers for recovery presented themselves, friends and family members as examples of what can be accomplished through participation in the many programs offered by local public and private agencies and organizations. County Commissioner Melvin McLawhorn read a proclamation of support from the board, and people in recovery gave testimony to the hope they have for a better life through recovery.
