Flu vaccine required for Vidant staff

Vidant Medical Center will take stronger measures in the perpetual battle against the flu by requiring shots for all employees, a hospital official said.

“We are implementing a new policy that requires physicians, nurses, housekeepers, students and all other employees to have an annual flu vaccination,” said Dr. Paul Shackelford, senior vice president of medical affairs for Vidant.


Vaccination is a tried- and-true strategy in the fight against infections, including influenza, dating back to the polio vaccine developed the 1950s, Shackelford said.
