The pathway for strolling or biking from one end of Greenville to the other is pointed forward after a recent City Council vote to extend its public trail system.
The council voted 5-1 at its Jan. 9 meeting to provide its required portion of matching funds to add an estimated 1.4-mile extension to the 4.3-mile, 10-foot-wide South Tar River/ Green Mill Run greenway system. The extension will roughly border the Tar River from the Town Common to Vidant Medical Center, formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital, and the Pitt County Office Complex.
Councilwoman Rose Glover was the lone vote against the appropriation.

Its commendable that the city
Its commendable that the city is pursing the greenway projects. The area west of Hwy 11 has ZERO parks, yet is one of the largest tax bases in The City. Every Saturday I run the existing greenway and pass dozens of other citizens who also enjoy its use. This is public money spent well on infrastructure, green space, and fitness/recreation. I can't wait until its open!
