North Carolina grocery chain Harris Teeter is opening a new location in Greenville.
The city's third Harris Teeter location will replace the Kroger on Evans Street.
“We're excited to be opening our third location in Greenville,” said Harris Teeter Director of Communications Jennifer Thompson.

A travesty
In terms of competition and shopping experience, the closing Kroger is a travesty for this city.
The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The store is clean, well organized, they have great selection and pricing. The location is convenient and easily accessible.
In comparison, from my personal experience, Harris Teeter has a poor selection of goods, is expensive, and I do not like the layout of their stores.
I'll shop Kroger until the change, but I'll also be looking for another regular grocery store as I'm not a fan of Food Lion dated store designs (even with remodelling), dirty stores, and poor selection.
Sorry To See Them Go
I shop at all of them. It was good to have some competition among local supermarkets beyond Food Lion and Harris Teeter. Between them, Lowe's Foods and Kroger you could pretty much find whatever you needed in this town without having to go to Raleigh or wherever for "special" items. Kroger had a number of imported specialty brands and other offerings on thier shelves unavailable elsewhere in town.
I regret that they are closing and hope that the mostly friendly employees who worked there will all be able to find new jobs.
While on the subject, would it really be that "unprofitable" to put a Food Lion, Harris Teeter or even a Piggly Wiggly on the north side of the river? That's probably where the new Walmart should've wound up.
Harris Teeter
Adding another Harris Teeter is a good thing. Taking away a good Kroger store in the process is not good. Also this location is bound to take HT business away from the 14th/Charles location.
Why not place the new HT further west in Greenville near hospital complex? After all that's where most of paychecks in this town come from. The lines at Stantonsburg Food Lion check outs every day tell the story better than I can.
NO! I love Kroger. We don't
NO! I love Kroger. We don't need another HT
Sad day for my family
I have been a loyal Kroger customer since they were located in the area where Pet Smart is today. I depend on the pharmacy and pharmacists at Krogers and I am sad and aprehensive as to what will happen. My mother and father also love the pharmacy at Krogers and we are all praying that Susan and her staff stay together.
loss of Kroger
This makes me sad both as a consumer and for the Kroger employees. I found Kroger to be a reasonably priced store which offered good quality produce. It was nice to be able to purchase apples, onions, etc. that didn't weigh a pound each like I find in Harris Teeter. Harris Teeter is really expensive, in my opinion and I don't see a third store replacing Kroger as being a plus for folks.
health foods etc.
Kroger's has become my favorite grocery over the years, not in small part due to their natural / health / organic / animal-free foods section. I'm a vegan, and have come to depend heavily on what Kroger offers in this regard. Items like Lightlife imitation deli meats, Nature's Path cereals, Amy's frozen entrees and canned soups, Blue Diamond almond milk and crackers, Galaxy imitation cheese slices, R.W. Knudsen fruit juices (Mega Green in particular) aren't always that easy to find locally. Also non-food nature-friendly items like Jäsön toothpaste and shampoo, Kiss My Face bath soap, Nature's Gate shampoo, Seventh Generation automatic dishwasher detergent. Some other stores have some of these, notably Oakmont Health Food, but Kroger's has made it so easy.
I wonder if Harris Teeter will continue to stock these types of items. The other two locations already in town don't have a lot of them, so I'm doubtful. And concerned.

I just did.
Krogers
We no longer have a grocery store for the average Joe. Harris Teeter prices are to high and the average person could go in Kroger and buy a healthy cheap meal for their family. What does Harris Teeter plan to do about prices at this location. We really need a reasonable price grocery store in this area. Piggly Wiggly get ready to build another store. I will be shopping with you from now on. WalMart is just to crowed for me.
