Read the front page-
"City and state road crews continued around-the-clock shifts Wednesday night to scrape away the estimated 5 inches of snow that fell on Pitt County roads Tuesday."

Actually, you were exactly wrong. Good job! Your streak is still intact.

Looks like I was right with my prediction.

Ice is the problem. Snow is ok, but ice is a major hazard. I watched students in pickup trucks moving sideways as they floored it on fifth street downtown today. And that was because they didn't seem to understand snow. Just wait for how they handle ice! Keep insurance cards handy.

National Weather Service forecasters in Newport say to expect as much as 2-7 inches of snow to accumulate in the area by tonight. According to Jeremy Schulz, “the snow should stop late tonight or early tomorrow morning.”

pitt resident..

I am never negative in my comments. On another note, a lot of people in this town do not know how to drive in the rain...so what is the difference???

How about now Mentalist

Yeah...I really did not think it was going to snow hardly at all. I personally do not think this town should shut down for 2 inches of snow. I also doubt we will see 5 inches of snow in Greenville.

Getting deeper. Is 2" or 3" of snow the appropriate level to cancel something for a county with maybe 1 true snow plow.

While they have made crazy calls for much worse than this, it has always been this way. Rarely happens, so is it truly hurting anyone.

FYI... Pitt County Schools... students were out... not staff...also athletic events were scheduled... if the schools are not officially closed then the events would go on....

It doesn't matter that school are closed b/c this was a teacher workday anyway...so they won't have to makeup a day later, which is a plus.

i dont think is pathetic they close schools cause there is a lot of students around here that cant even drive when the sun is shining much less when its snowing and icy on the roads. There would be tons of wrecks! And also around here is don't snow often so you gotta enjoy it while its here.

Isn't it pathetic that schools and businesses actually closed for this "snow day"???
