The leaders of six Pitt County volunteer fire department will get a chance in June to explain why they are seeking tax increases in their fire districts.
The Pitt County Board of Commissioners agreed to invite departmental leaders to their June 6 meeting to explain why fire taxes may increase. The increases are being sought as part of the county's fiscal year 2011-12 budget, which becomes effective July 1.
Staton House is seeking a .15-cent increase; Farmville wants a .005-cent increase; Gardnerville and Grimesland want a .005-cent increase; Ayden seeks a 1.25 cent increase, and Winterville Community Rural seeks a 1.50-cent increase.
