The victims of Hurricane Katrina remind many Greenville churches about the value of working with agencies to keep local residents on the front of everyone’s mind, a national leader said Tuesday of a new model for disaster readiness.
The Rev. Frankie T. Jones Sr., chairman of Disaster Preparedness for the Progressive National Baptist Church, spoke at New Covenant Community Church on North Greene Street about his organization’s efforts to establish a national model for using churches’ connections with their congregations as a means to prepare for and respond to natural and man-made disasters.
“The church is a refuge place and a communications center whose role in disasters cannot be overstated,” Jones said.
