The Pitt County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved the 2011-12 fiscal year budget with an 8-1 vote after multiple votes on whether it would approve tax increases for six rural fire districts.
Commissioner Jimmy Garris was the lone commissioner to vote against the budget.
“I voted against the budget because it had the (fire district) tax increases,” Garris said. “I had already voted against the increases, so to vote for the budget that included them would have be inconsistent.”
