Pitt County Schools' dropout rate is down by more than 10 percent for the second year in a row according to a state report released on Thursday.
The number of students dropping out last school year decreased almost 12 percent from the year before, according to the 2010-11 Consolidated Data Report presented to the State Board of Education. Before that, the decline was 25 percent, for a total decrease of 37 percent in two years.
A total of 318 students dropped out in Pitt County last year, down from 361 students in 2009-10 and 482 students in 2008-09. The dropout rate decreased to 4.31 percent last year from 4.87 percent in 2009-10 and 6.42 percent in 2008-09.
