Pitt County Schools has completed its collection of data in preparation for an upcoming court hearing on its racial equity.
At the June 27 Board of Education meeting, staff presented the final package of data to show progress toward unitary status, or the formal elimination of the vestiges of the dual system of segregation.
The school system must go to federal district court in December 2012 to prove it provides the same educational opportunities to all and finally close out its original desegregation orders from 1970, which were revived after a recent investigation into a 2005 attendance district plan that sought racial balancing.
