The Pitt County Planning Board on Wednesday unanimously recommended amending the county’s zoning ordinance to permit solar farm development.

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners must hold a public hearing on the request and vote before a zoning amendment is finalized.

HelioSage Energy, based in a Charlottesville, Va., requested the change. The company has applied for two interconnections to Greenville Utilities Commission’s electric distribution system. The goal is to connect HelioSage to GUC’s distribution system so its electricity can be sold to another provider.
