Police report few game-related incidents

The Daily Reflector

Friday, November 06, 2009

East Carolina University police reported few incidents connected to Thursday night's football.

At halftime, one arrest had been made of an individual who resisted officers trying to eject him from the stadium for an alcohol violation, Major Frank Knight reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. There were six to 10 ejections for alcohol violations by that time, he said.

“It's getting a little bit chilly, the crowd is enthusiastic, and everything is going well,” Knight said.

Law enforcement said traffic congestion started about 4 p.m.

James Tripp, chief of investigations with Pitt County Sheriff's Office, said at that time he encountered traffic backed up to the interchange where U.S. 264 Bypass meets Stantonsburg Road.

Greenville police were unavailable for comment.

Greenville Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Tony Smart said emergency medical personnel treated six to eight people for a variety of medical issues. A medical transport crew also had to transport an ECU football player to Pitt County Memorial Hospital for treatment of a leg injury.

To A. Pretty sure that's not why you didn't get the job, but apparently the one you got allows you to watch football games while you're working?

You are probably one of the sorry drivers that will not yield (which is the law) to pedestrians trying to cross Cotanche at the Student Rec Center. The police did their job...no pedestrians were hit by impatient inconsiderate drivers like you.

To: Police Do Your Job: You knew that traffic would be backed up in that area. ECU and local media warned for over 2 weeks to avoid that area during game time. Pedestrian have the right of way. You should have taken a different route or timed your travel better.

It says something about times that no incident is news.

Why does the cop just stand there while I have to wait for 45,000 pedestrians to walk in front of me? Do your job. Aren't you getting paid? You were just standing around on 14th street talking to some girl while tons of people were walking in front of a long line of cars. Do your job and control the traffic (pedestrian and vehicular). I had to edge my way through the crowd to get out of the lot.

Did anybody from the Daily Reflector watch the game?! You couldn't say, "they transported Dekota Marshall..." That's weak. I'm glad I never got that job at the Reflector...I have too much brain.
