Complaints by neighborhood residents lead to drug arrest

Saturday, November 07, 2009

Pitt County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit detectives arrested a Greenville man Friday night on cocaine trafficking charges after receiving several complaints from neighborhood residents on Glenda Street in Greenville, chief investigator James Tripp said Saturday.

James Earl Jenkins, 63, 102 Glenda St., was charged with trafficking cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the sale and distribution of a controlled substance.

The sheriff had received a number of complaints from neighbors about the frequent activity at Jenkins' home, Tripp said.

After several hours of investigation, the detectives obtained enough information to get a search warrant for Jenkins' home, where they found and seized about 100 grams of crack cocaine in 240 individual packets ready for sale, Tripp said. The total drugs seized was valued at $10,000. Detectives also seized $680 in cash.

“This arrest will cut down on unwanted activity by people who are there for one purpose, to buy and sell drugs, with no consideration for the residents who live there,” Tripp said.
