Race raises $2,200 for Relay

Rain didn't dampen spirits or the cause Saturday at the first Lace Up 4 A Cure 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk in Greenville.

Even with the rain, there were 73 runners that finished the race, which began at Moe's on Red Banks Road. Several walkers finished their 1 mile route as well

The event was sponsored by Physicians East and raised $2,200 for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.

Festivities began at Moe's and the course proceeded through the Lynndale subdivision. There was a total of 163 registered participants. Results are as follows:

Overall Male: Joshua Faceh

Overall Female: Kay Evans

1-12 years Male

1st place: Noah Elliot

2nd place: Bailey Schrade

13-19 years Male

1st place: Eric Sjoerdsma

2nd place: Jeremiah Elliott

13-19 years Female

Not about happy or not happy. It's about the non-sense of having a donut race and the overall promotion of overeating in Pitt County along side a 5K race. If folks here would cut out going to Golden Corral and the like, and stop smoking, we'd be in better shape. Hey, here's a novel idea: why don't obese and smokers pay a higher health premium and those who take care of themselves pay lower premiums.
