Two months after Hurricane Irene ripped trees from the ground by their root balls and toppled them into streets and homes, an N.C. State University faculty member delivered a timely address.
Robert Barton, assistant dean for extension and engagement at N.C. State’s College of Natural Resources, presented a talk titled “Trees and Storms: Are We Prepared?” as part of ReLeaf’s annual membership drive Monday at Ironwood Golf & Country Club. The local nonprofit raises money through membership fees and donations to purchase canopy trees for planting across Greenville.
ReLeaf doesn’t only plant new growth but also works to preserve trees and replaces those felled by both natural disaster and development.
