The retirement of a Pitt County District Court judge has prompted at least three local lawyers to announce runs for the seat.
Judge Charles Vincent on Monday confirmed he would be stepping down at the end of his term in November at the age of 66. Vincent was elected to the seat in 2000 after 26 years in private practice and several years as a clerk for a U.S. District Court judge.
“I have been blessed in being able to serve others in every stage of my legal career,” Vincent said in a statement issued Monday. “It has been a pleasure to have worked with so many wonderful people. I am excited and look forward to being active in retirement and to contribute to the legal profession in the future on less than a full time basis.”
