A homeless encampment off Memorial Drive was visited by Salvation Army volunteers and a college youth group Sunday, and several homeless people accompanied them back to the Salvation Army for a planned Super Bowl party.

Several people readily left what’s known as “tent city” on a chilly night to attend the party.

Guests included Crystal, 24, who has been living at campsites for more than a month with her boyfriend, Billy, 34, and their friend, James, 18. They declined to give their last names.

waste of time- stop enabling these people

This is a waste of time and hot dogs

get them to work and stop enabling these souls
to this life

It may make YOU feel good but it does them NO good

Good use of time.

jack1919,

True, there may be some that don't need "enabling" but you can't ignore others who may just need a little support and care to help them get back on their feet.

It's comforting to me to know that if I ever hit rock bottom and needed help that there are people out there that will reach out to me.

danny- thats the point

thats the point

nowhere in this exercise are you " getting them back on their feet"

you are just feeding them hot dogs

Curious

Jack,

You have made your point that you feel that people that reach out to the homeless by ministering to them and feeding them is a waste of time.

What would you recommend to be done to help these people "get back on their feet"?

This article did a wonderful job of reflecting of both the spirit and organization of the event
