A Greenville man died Sunday in Martin County while felling a tree on property near Williamston, a spokesman for the Martin County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

The sheriff's office did not release the identity of the man, pending an autopsy, but friends and other professionals in the area confirmed the man who died as Daniel Kevin Corey, 54, of Greenville. Corey was said to have a tree service based in Pitt County.

The incident occurred between 3 p.m. and 3:40 p.m., according to Capt. Kenny Warren of Williamston Fire-Rescue.
