The United Way of Pitt County’s effort to make an impact on the community is off to a good start, organizers say.
The local chapter of the national nonprofit organization discussed its recently adopted goals of reducing the dropout and unemployment rates during its annual luncheon meeting at Brook Valley Country Club on Tuesday.
United Way transitioned last year to a community impact model in which it focuses on solving community problems through collaboration rather than funding separate member agencies. The dropout and unemployment rates were chosen after a series of forums in 2010 where residents identified them as the most pressing social issues.
